So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27
So I am occupied with the concept of our Ancient History and our origin recently. Not for the first time though, but for surely for the first time in 2016. I often time travel my thoughts back to those days when our civilization was still in its initial phase. How step by step we transformed ourselves and gained knowledge from and about our environment. But still I always doubt our origin and our purpose! Okay, let me be clear why all these things are now echoing in my brain. Actually I visited an Ancient temple with my family last week. The temple is near to Samalkot, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, South India. I was amazed by the serene beauty the temple offered, but was shocked when the Pandit of the temple told that this temple was built around 9000 years ago. I was like, come again?! It is a Vishnu temple as said by the Pandit. He gave us a pamphlet and this is how he described the temple’s history to us.
Once upon a time there was a deep forest named Keekaranyam. A child named Dhruva lived there. He was the son of the king of that place. The mother of Dhruv was Suneeta. Dhruv’s step mother was against the decision of Dhruv becoming the king. Once Suneeta called Dhruv and told “You are meant to become the King and rule the kingdom in a great manner. For that you have to pray and perform austerity to Lord Maha Vishnu and get his blessings. With his blessings you will become the king. So start praying to him.”
By listening to this, Dhruv moved to Muni Sandilya ashram. Muni knowing Dhruv’s mind, called Dhruv. Then muni told Dhruv that “My son, You start praying to the divine form of Lord Vishnu. Perform Austerity to him. He will appear and fulfill your wish.” Then Dhruv started praying to Lord Vishnu. After some period, impressed by the prayers of Dhruv, Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Dhruv. But by seeing the divine and shining light of Lord Vishnu, Dhruv being a child got frightened. Seeing this Lord Vishnu spoke, “Son, Why are you afraid? I am in you. I am the same size as yours. Don’t worry” and saying this he reduced the intensity of his light and appeared in the form same as Dhruv’s height. Then he pressed the cheeks of the child, blessed him and turned into a statue. So because of this incidence, this statue is also called Shrungara Vallabha Swamy. It is also referred by the name “Tholi Tirupati”, which literally means “First Tirupati”. It is said that it was the first ever statue form of Lord Vishnu. Even some celebrities have visited this place and this temple was of great importance. Some of them include RudramaDevi, Vikramaarkulu and Queen Victoria. And Queen Victoria said that when her husband saw the statue, it appeared as 6 feet to him as he was 6 feet. It is also often said that the statue appears same the height of the viewer. Later idols of goddess Lakshmi Devi and Bhudevi were installed near the idol of Lord Vishnu. I too observed the statue as my height. But for that we have to stand at a distance. When I saw it from the place from where it is said to be seen, it appeared as if the ground is slightly sloped or at an angle, which made our point of view coincide with the statue’s place appearing to us as the same height.
When the Pandit finished his description I was in that place but my imagination has reached the sky. I mean to the stars. When he mentioned the name Dhruv, the first thing that came in my mind was Dhruva taara story which translates as Dhruva star. The story which we learned as children and were fascinated about the story. The story goes like this, Dhruv wanted to be seen by everyone in the world, so God converted him into a star, the brightest star! And also this history mentions that Dhruv got frightened with the divine light of Lord Vishnu. Who knows this may be same Dhruv, just imagining. Who knows he may have diverted from his wish and desired to be a star. Let your thoughts wander just as mine did.
But what happened next was the real wonder. When I saw the surroundings of the temple, I was like Oh My! It was mystical. Beautiful carvings, unreadable scriptures, some amazing sculptures and what not! It seemed as if I have stepped into an another world. There were many carvings which appeared to me strange. There was a well on the left side of the backyard and it is believed that couples who don’t have children can get blessed with a child if they bath with this water. Amazing! But one scene which left me wondering was an area which resembled like a Dam. Don’t get me wrong but it is my honest opinion on this. You can see the resemblance below in the pics. It means this could be the oldest dam in the world or may be not. There are dozens of pillars with some unreadable scriptures on them. I tried to use my intelligent mind here but all attempts went futile. I just took a pic of one of them and kept it for future use. Then I saw the Dhwaja Stambam of the temple which honestly appeared strange to me. This was quite different than what I saw in other temples. This had some horizontal lines at regular intervals which looked like stages of a rocket launch. I touched many of the carvings of the temple but it felt like they were made of some different material. There were many small statues which looked strange to me. And there was also a ventilator to the left extreme left corner of the temple. And coming to the statue of Lord Vishnu aided by his two wives, was so bright and in a smiling posture. Pandit opposed me when I was about to take the photo. The shanka and Chakra were on the opposite sides when compared to the regular idols of Vishnu. For one moment I imagined shanka as the sound generator when the engine starts or blows horns and Chakra as the wheel or steering handle. That adventurous visit to the temple was amazing and mystical. Some parts of the temple were modernized though for convenience.
But when I came home I wanted to know more about this temple. We visited this temple as my father’s friend told my father about it. I searched it on internet and got little information, though I found myself landing into a new different world of a show called Ancient Aliens. First I started laughing and then slowly my laugh disappeared. My eye brows got raised. I moved near to the screen. That one dialogue was enough, “Are we the Sons of Aliens? Do Aliens landed on Earth and taught us about the science they knew about? Were they more developed than us then? Were they the one, who opened the knowledge gate for us and transformed our evolution process? Do we speak their language?” These questions from videos of Ancient Aliens made me mad. There have been wide spread belief that Gods came from heaven, from the sky! Any bells? Even in Ramayana and Mahabharata there are mentioning of wars that were fought in air. Do they knew how to fly? There are many evidences that the Gods used to travels in flying chariots and Gods had vahanas, which means vehicles. Or they had the knowledge of flying vehicles using which they fought wars. Even Sanjaya from Mahabharata used to see the war proceedings by sitting in the palace itself. They had cameras and transmitters? Devanagari is known to be language from which all languages were made. And Devanagari was the language of Gods. Again I wondered of them. I don’t know to what extent their sayings are true, but they have definitely given me something to ponder upon. I am not saying they are completely true about their words. I also believe in existence of God. There are many edges which are not clear about our ancient culture and origin of humans. We are unaware of our purpose of existence. We were imparted the knowledge of sciences by Gods. Or they were, you say. Just leaving it to your own imagination. Much of the ancient science is hidden under the land of Earth! The science treasure.
I am also a religious person. But I do not follow any one religion, even though being a Hindu. All religions are one and came from the same source. The creators of World. The God. We all are his sons and daughters. No use of fighting for religions and going oblique from their very purpose of formations. Every religion teaches Peace and love. We all are here for a short period and we have to make our life worth-living. People have found money as the base and keep running for it in the opposite direction from their true purpose of their existence. We have to step in our minds and search for our purpose and our origin. Who knows the purpose is waiting for us to be discovered.
And concluding this with one more thing I observed, recently they said that the waves radiated by the Sun make a sound which resembles like “Aum”. Aum is also the most divine sound and all the audible sounds belongs to the space between the mouth beginning from the root of the tongue to the end of the lips. So Aum is the supreme divine sound. And who are we? hUMans! I think you clearly got what I am trying to say here.
So here are some pics I have taken during that temple visit, not a photographer though. The temple which made made think about our existence once again, about humanity, truth and purpose. From yesterday evening I am completely involved in this concept and can’t stop my imagination and unable to limit it. Just hoping to land back on the land of reality from land of imagination with expressing them in words. Thanks for reading.
Echo your thoughts. I have been dwelling on similar chain of thoughts you expressed in the start of this post. Check out my blog 😛

What a mysterious and mystical place! Lol. I don’t know if aliens ever visited the earth, but it’s fun to think about it. If they did, they mustn’t have been too impressed for they are no longer here! Or are they? I think my cousin may be from another planet. His dancing is out of this world! Haha!! I think aliens taught him how to moon walk. 👽
Beautiful photos, too, Jackie. 😊

Enjoy reading your account of Tholi Tirupati temple and the story of Dhruv associated with the temple. I had visited Hampi & Pattadkal last year and had gone to the Elephanta caves a few days back and immensely liked the old sculptures and carvings. So can appreciate the mystical feeling that you have written about. Thanks for sharing Jackie. 🙂

The thin line between reality and myth and coexistence especially embedded in historical structure is beautifully penned through personal encounter. Poignant expression.

Thank you so much Chaitali. It’s always great to see your beautiful feedback in comment section. Yes, there is a very thin line between myth and reality which we often fail to see. Some conspiracy theories are widely spread which makes it difficult to ignore them. And yes, the visit to the temple was awesome and serene. Thanks Chaitali. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

9000 year old temple! Can’t imagine! You touched the history. And the descriptions of temple with the myth is amazing. The concept of dhruv Tara from the story is really touchy.
Now, am planning to visit the temple once. The pictures are very nice, though you are not a professional photographer :-).

That was a well-researched narrative, Jackie. I think I’ve heard the story of Dhruv as a child…your narration just rekindled the memories… 🙂
The Alien theory is quite popular. Actually, the precision of our architectural elegance and impeccable carvings of the ancient temples sometimes do force us to think on that line… 😀
Loved the pictures…the third from the last, is that a well?

Thank you so much Mani. . Your comments always lights up my day. And yes, Alien theory is wide spread. And if we go by logical reasoning this is the only possible answer. And yes, that pic is of a well. And see how it is constructed. Unbelievable! They also say that if couples who don’t have children gets blessed with child if they bath with that water! Have a great weekend Mani. . 🙂

Great post, lot of info here. History and it’s relics have a way of leaving untold stories in their structure and texture alike. It’s magnificent and awe-inspiring! Honestly, I really feel ancient Godly beings and prophets were all aliens. I don’t mean green goblin or grey long men like creatures. I mean evolved beings who belong to a higher realm of existence and make appearance in our world only to help us rise too.

Thank you so much Swetha. I got most of the information from the Pandit and Pamphlet. Yes, I don’t believe it completely though, but my logical mind accepts it to some extent. That could be the only possibility for us to transform and gain knowledge at a rapid pace. They used to work with our ancestors and helped us in getting useful information for our good. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Swetha. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
