G is for Gossip: Day-7

“Gossip is the only form of talk after rumour which can compete the speed of light in terms of spreading.”

What’s cooking today?

Till yesterday I was thinking to write on either Genius or Gestures. But an incident which happened today morning made me to write on this topic. Gossip spreads in all directions without any purpose.

Today morning while I was having tea, one of my neighbor came to wish me happy Ugadi (celebrated here as a new year, also known as Gudi Padva). I also wished him a happy Ugadi.

Then he started it, ‘Did you read today’s newspaper? V.Kohli and Anushka Sharma are back as an unit. Yesterday they had a date night too.’ His expression was very entertaining and curious.

I said ‘No. I didn’t read about it. So what?’

Then this was his reply, ‘I am very sad for RCB this year, Kohli will not play well for RCB as they both have patched up again.’

I asked how come as I didn’t find any logic!
‘Didn’t you notice, after their break up he played so well in the T-20 world cup for India! So as they now are back, he will be out of form’ he confirmed.

And this is how gossip generates. Without any purpose, people by using their imaginative creativity, they build and make up stories and throw them in the market. They spread along with the speed of light. Social media acts as catalyst in this spreading act. But the problem is that it is not the truth. It is the fictional story of someone’s mind. But people want some spicy news so that it helps them in killing the time. They want entertainment in their life. They love gossiping for hours without any purpose and direction. Instead they should spend the time in improving some skills or they should analyze their life.

During childhood even I was involved with my friends in many gossips and spreading rumors about our teachers’ relationships even though it was half true and half was our imagination. We all hate half stories and we complete them by filling it with our own imagination. Then we had no idea whether it was good or not, but now I can say it was purposeless. Now I can say it is bad. It hurts the feelings of people under radar.

Idleness promotes Gossiping. When we have nothing to do or when we feel bored we need something readymade entertainment or else we build some story and then the easiest part spread it. Gossip it. Spread the rumours. Celebrities face the wrath of such gossips. Sometimes I wonder how celebrities handle such pressure of being an icon and handle such gossips about their personal life. Media in order to increase their TRP value, they just add spices to the normal issues. And people become victims of such issues.

We all should stay away from creating gossips or spreading gossips. Once the gossips are stopped from spreading or not given ears to, they lose the momentum. They just lose their form. Gossips die because of not having ears.

How to stay away from gossips:
1. Remain silent when you hear gossips. Don’t spread it.
2. Don’t get your ears flapping for gossips at your work place.
3. Don’t involve in your colleague’s personal lives.
4. Don’t interrogate much in celebrities’ personal lives.
5. Gossips may also be running about you. Don’t lose the focus. Don’t give ears.
6. Stay happy and away from where gossip is cooking. Eat healthy food.

This post is my entry for A to Z challenge . It is already day 7 and it is on letter ‘G’. G is for Gossip.

Coming to the challenge, as the name itself says it is very challenging. On every day of month April, except Sundays, which makes it to 26 days, each participant should publish a post relating to the letter corresponding to the number of the day thus completing all the 26 alphabets. For example on day 1, the post should be on something related on letter A, on the second day it should be related to B and this goes on. Exciting? Isn’t it?

And as always, thanks for reading. Have a good time. Happy Ugadi. Stop gossips from spreading if it reaches you. Be wise. Life is fuzzy.

Excellent post! The worst part about it is that people associate sharing gossip with building friendships.

This is great Jackie, yes life is fuzzy we don’t need gossip to make it even more so. You have some great tips on how to stop gossiping. There’s a saying here, I’m not sure if you heard it before “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop” It’s similar to what you said in your post. 😉 Have a great weekend! 🙂

Yes, life is already so fuzzy and gossip increases the fuzziness. Thanks that you feel these tips as useful. And yes, I have heard this saying. It’s very true and being idle makes our mind a devil.

Have a great weekend Jenni.. 🙂

Gossip can kill a person’s reputation and can hurt her/him badly. I don’t understand why people find it so engaging! It’s quite infectious as well.

Great post, Jackie. The example of Virat and Anushka is just apt!

Even I wonder how do these celebrities handle the gossips. When gossips fly around about us in office or in college, we are unable to handle it (at least it gets difficult) and here the whole country talks about them! They are really great…!

    Great post 🙂
