Is the Universe acting or reacting?

This question have been pondered by many since the beginning of time and even though there are many explanations, we are yet to prove it scientifically. But do we need to prove everything scientifically? If we observe the situation we live in carefully and assess it, we can decide whether our universe is acting or reacting.

Let’s see two different situations and observe the difference between them.
You are walking barefoot on a road and suddenly you step on a thorn, unknowingly. You feel angry for the pain you are going through, but whom do you blame? None, because the source of pain is a non-living thing. You think this is karma. You think this is a reaction.
Now, you are walking on the same road and a cyclist hits you from the back, unknowingly. You feel angry for the pain you are going through, but whom do you blame now? The cyclist, because the source of pain is a living being. You don’t think that this is karma! You think this is an action by the cyclist. Why?

So now tell the difference, why we think one situation is an action and another one is a reaction! Why cannot the latter situation be a reaction too, because of our past actions! Why our mindset is like, if the source of pain is a nonliving thing, then only the situation is a reaction and if source of pain is a living being, we think the situation is an action from that source. Why cannot nature choose a living being as a reaction for our actions which we did in the past!? Think upon it.

The major problem is not whether we take it is as a reaction or not, the problem is that instead of repenting to our past sins we try to avoid the reaction and create a new action in that place. The reaction for this ‘action for a reaction’ will be doubled in future. You may disagree with this, but just look around. We are living in the technologically most advanced era, still so many problems globally. Wars, diseases, increased natural disasters, anxiety, selfishness, anger, poverty, economic collapse situation, stress, depression etc.. This is the reaction for our past deeds on a global level. But what we do we try is create more action thus intensifying the reaction in the future. When in trouble, rather than blaming one another, if we accept and situation and stand together for peace and development with selfless intentions, the reaction will be served and thus will liberate us from our suffering.

We have to give up the false belief that it is an action from the nature, whenver we go through pain from a living being. It is not an action, it is a reaction of our past deeds. Thus we stop making new negative actions and thus our past actions’ account gets fulfilled. Then we start experiencing the good reactions from nature because of our good decisions taken while experiencing the negative reaction from the nature.

Thanks for reading. The example of two different situations given at the beginning is inspired from the book ‘The fault is of the sufferer’ written by Dada Bhagwan. It contains enormous wisdom and all his other books gives us a new perspective on looking at life. Have a great week ahead

Yea.. It is difficult to understand this when we just see outside, but it becomes clear once we seek within..

Thanks for reading. We can just interpret the process but can never understand the universe completely.

Have a great weekend.. And welcome to the blog.. 🙂

It’s common that we often blame our fate when we cannot find anyone to blame. And negative thinking starts from here. Very nicely , you have explained it here with the examples.
By the way, thanks, Jackie, for following my new blog. You are the one who is with me from the beginning of my blog to still. And, thanks is not enough for your continuous support. Have a nice day.

Yes, that’s true Sayanti.. We need a object to blame whenever we feel sad or suffer for any pain.. From such psychology, negative thinking takes birth..
And yes, I remember you said that explain posts with examples for better efficiency of posts.. Thanks.

Pondering over your article, I can now find that most of the times, people keep on blaming karma when they suffer from an inanimate object. But, words, like ‘revenge’, ‘justice’, ‘punishment’ come to the scene when the source of pain is an animated one. I think, the psychology behind this, we can’t inflict pain to a brick or a thorn, whereas, we can make a living thing suffer for the misdeeds done.

In day to day life, we tend to forget the ‘karmic balance’. Our ego, hatred, lust and pride blind our souls with which karma is associated. And, thus, the account of karma keeps on rolling in different births.

Thanks for such a post full of wisdom. Whenever I read your blog, I think and re-think about all these things… 🙂

Thank you do much Mani for reading and sharing your views..

We always see our mind tuning in the frequency of such thoughts of metaphysical values.. Karma, after life, cause and effect etc..

You have well said about the principle of karma.. We try to bound more karma as we seek for revenge and punishing the culprit.. Our psychology had been programmed in such a way by the world that we believe in ‘tit for tat’. We keep bounding our karma by falling in the traps of ego, greed, lust and pride.. When time comes for judgement we blame karma.. So sad.. 😦

Thank you Mani.. I am glad that such thoughts keep you thinking about these principles upon which our universe functions..

      Have a great weekend.. 🙂

This wisdom is true but takes a long time to seep inside us. It’s also harder to practice. But a question I’ve always held in my mind- suppose person A is tortured & killed by B. Now if we think its all A’s fault of past karma, do we let off B from criminal proceedings or do we pitch for judicial punishment?

Yes, this wisdom is from ancient times and has been the principle of nature from the very beginning.. We see events from perceptions of our ideas and what we have read in news. Whatever happens is justice.. I understood this principle when I read the book ‘The fault is of the sufferer’. It’s full of wisdom..

And coming to the question, ‘A’ got killed because of his previous actions.. So he is caught guilty by karma for now.. And when it is time for ‘B’s Karma to give fruits, he will be justified by the nature. Intent is more important than action. If ‘B’ killed ‘A’ without any reason, then he is also guilty. Because karma judges both culprit and victim according to the intent, but not at the same time. That’s why we say time is an illusion. ‘B’ will also be justified when time comes for judgement. But sins have raised so much nowadays that law and order have become important. Judicial punishment is important so that people don’t take advantage of such incidents, but judicial judgement not equal to nature’s judgement.

Thanks for sharing your views on this Dr. Sweety. Have a great weekend.. 🙂

Ya…i could feel very much on this…like, if there a negative thing happening, its because of my own previous actions….simply, if i failed to reach a place on time, i know i had deviated from my path somehow …there is no one to be blamed upon other than my own ways…

Yes, everything happens because of our previous actions. Our ego and anger hides the source of suffering and thus instead of accepting our mistakes we further make mistakes. We ourselves are to blame for what happens to us. If we can understand this principle of Justice, we can live happily as the blame game will end up.

Thanks for reading and sharing your views.. 🙂
      Good night Akhila.. 🙂
